Overview

The Learning Support Assistant programme prepares you to work one-to-one and in small groups with children who need targeted classroom support. It is Impact's most requested programme and the one UAE schools return to when they need assistants who can start contributing immediately.

Rather than covering special educational needs as theory, the programme is structured around the situations an assistant actually faces: a child who cannot settle, a task that needs breaking down, a behaviour that has a function, a teacher who needs a second pair of hands that knows what to do.

Who it's for

Aspiring classroom assistants

Entering education support work and needing a recognised route in.

Existing school staff

Already in a school and moving into a dedicated support role.

Parents of children with additional needs

Wanting to understand and apply the same strategies at home.

Shadow teachers

Working independently and needing formal certification behind the practice.

What participants learn

  • How autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and specific learning difficulties present in a classroom setting
  • Breaking learning tasks into achievable steps and adjusting them in real time
  • Reading behaviour as communication, and responding without escalating
  • Building independence rather than dependence on the assistant
  • Working alongside a class teacher without disrupting the lesson
  • Recording observations that are useful to teachers, parents, and specialists
  • Additional module content to be confirmed against current curriculum

Outcomes

By the end of the programme, participants can take a support role in a mainstream classroom and be useful from the first week.

  • Plan and deliver targeted support for an individual child across a school day
  • Adapt materials and instructions to a child's actual level without waiting for direction
  • Apply de-escalation and regulation strategies appropriate to the child
  • Contribute written observations to reviews and individual education plans

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a teaching qualification to enrol?

Entry requirements to confirm. The programme is generally suitable for participants without a formal teaching background, provided they are comfortable working in English or Arabic at a professional level.

Will this certificate be recognised by schools in the UAE?

Recognition and awarding body to confirm before publication. Impact is KHDA licensed, and the certificate is issued under that licence.

Is a school placement included?

Placement arrangements to confirm — including whether placement is guaranteed, supported, or arranged independently by the participant.

Can a school book this for its whole support team?

Yes. In-house delivery is available and is usually preferable for groups, since the content can be built around the school's own pupils and setting. Speak to an advisor to scope it.

Is the programme available in Arabic?

Yes, cohorts run in both English and Arabic. Confirm current Arabic cohort schedule.
